Svetlana and the Delancey Five were hired to share their unique jazz sound - as well as Latin Pop and To 40s Pop Dance Party - and DJ services - with the posh crowd at an exclusive wedding that took place at the famous NYC Polo Bar. The Polo Bar is a extremely handsome American restaurant by designer Ralph Lauren, serving classic dishes, bar bites & drinks - currently only open to private events.
We got a call to play this wedding because bride and groom have seen us at one of our New York city jazz shows, and found us when they decided to plan their wedding! They also visited us at our Speakeasy show at the Back Room - and we agreed to work together right there and then!
This was not our first time playing at this gorgeous venue - we always love working at the Polo Bar!
The event started from elegant ceremony at the nearby church - and proceeded to the main floor of the Polo Bar for the reception with its understated elegant atmosphere supported by our jazz piano trio. Once guests were seated for dinner, we presented a 5 piece jazz band (piano, bass, drums, vocalist and saxophone player). Once dinner ended we got everyone up and dancing with Latin Pop and Classics and Top 40 Pop Dance party featuring 4 piece band (piano, bass, drums, saxophone) and a vocalist. After the live band retired for the evening, our DJ kept the party going for the next two hours! You can see the party on our instagram page!
Once the reception was completed the guests moved downstairs for dinner and dancing. However as soon as the guests got downstairs the event turned into a big 3 hour long dance party! The couple requested several more specialty tunes which we have arranged and learned specifically for this occasion.
We received several requests from the couple and the event planner - included some Barbara Straisand and Ella Fitzgerald tunes - and have learned them specifically for the newly wedded couple! Barbara Straisand’s Happy Days Are Here again was a song that particularly resonated with the guests - especially as the lyrics speak of dark times passing over and the new happy era coming back to life! The song started as a romantic first dance and turned into a boisterous dance party!
