Jazz & Swing Music for Backyard Wedding Event
Svetlana & the Delancey Three were thrilled to be invited by a fan to play at her small backyard wedding in a seaside neighborhood of Brooklyn, Sea Gate, is a private gated community at the far western end of Coney Island at the southwestern tip of the New York City borough of Brooklyn.
This type of small backyard family celebrations is something that we see requested often during COVID pandemic. As recent Vogue article about another backyard celebration have noted, people are getting married for better or worse, and this pandemic is pretty much the worst, so couples are just “moving forward and start living those vows”.
This was one of the smaller and most beautiful events we have played. The house was adorned with art and antiques and was located directly on Gravesend Bay and the wedding took place in the house backyard, cool sea breezes and beautiful sunset light enhancing the setting - and the intimacy of the setting and presence of only very close friends and family making the event that much more special.
The band and the guests wore semi-formal summer attire - which was very fitting for the surroundings and the theme that bride and groom chose (“informal backyard / beach themed wedding”)
The backyard wedding event began with an outdoor ceremony. The band was located on the house sun porch playing background music as the guests were being seated . The processional was accompanied by the band with the song requested by the groom and bride - an old favorite originally performed by Ella Fitzherald , an upbeat optimistic song that set incredibly fun and positive less ‘formal’ atmosphere for the entire wedding. The couple proceeded to the property fence; it was at that picturesque spot where the wedding officiant was waiting and directed the couple as they exchanged wedding vows, rings and were later pronounced husband and wife.
With this music, the jazz band created an elegant and vibrant atmosphere. We worked with the couple for months to pick just the right music for the processional, recessional, as well as the rest of the event, to make just the statement the bride and groom desired. The ceremony was soulful and beautiful - and accompanied by short poetic speeches by family and friends.
Once the ceremony concluded, the bride and groom made their entrance on the dance floor to a song carefully selected by the band. The happy couple's first dance together as husband and wife was done to the jazz classic, by Dinah Washington, What Difference A Day Makes,
While the guests relaxed throughout the buffet dinner, the band serenaded them with upbeat jazz tunes. This allowed for peaceful enjoyment of the meal and relaxed conversation for guests.
The bride and groom were thrilled with their wedding music. The event was informal, elegant, and very stylish - exactly as bride and groom desired.
