A century ago, financier and philanthropist Otto Hermann Kahn built Oheka Castle in the middle of a 443-acre plot on the highest point on Long Island in Cold Spring Harbor for an estimated cost of $11 million ($158 million in today’s currency). At the time of its construction, the French-style chateau was—and still is today—the second-largest private residence ever built in America. During the Gilded Age of the 1920s, Kahn used the 109,000-square-foot, 127-room estate as a summer home where he hosted lavish parties and regularly entertained royalty, heads of state, and Hollywood stars. In fact Oheka Castle, among other historical mansions in Long Island, were collectively the inspiration for F Scott Fitzgerald's famous novel The Great Gatsby. Once a gathering place for the rich and the famous, Oheka is now a historical home that welcomes all guests.

We were approached to perform at the event this Roaring 20s party based on our reputation as one of the premier roaring 20s Great Gatsby New York (NYC) bands - especially so based on our weekly residency at the Back Room Speakeasy in NYC. Back Room is where we've played our weekly roaring 20s vintage jazz concerts every Monday since 2012. The front of the speakeasy is the Lower East Side Toy Company, on Norfolk Street between Delancey and Rivington. Not everything in NYC is as it appears, though, and this serves as a ‘fake front’ for the Backroom Bar, a contemporary NYC speakeasy with roots that date back to Prohibition. Back Room had a real business operating in conjunction with the speakeasy during the Prohibition era - Ratner’s restaurant, another Lower East Side institution that opened up in 1908 and moved to Delancey Street just before the Volstead Act took effect.

We brought this authentic vintage joyful mood to the event at the Oheka. Thanks to this authentic atmosphere, many upscale companies choose the Oheka Castle to host their special events and holiday parties - and when they are looking for musical entertainment NYC agencies and clients are often choosing Svetlana & Delancey Five to play at the event! We also invited our friend Don, the Prohibition Era historian to present on the hustory of the castle, 20s vintage spirits culture and events and more!

On that night of the event, the theme of the evening was Roaring 20s. Both the guests and the band were decked out in their vintage best, and the band was invited to add its elegant upbeat music to enhance the authentic vintage mood of the event. The guests loved our upbeat swing music and vintage jazz selections - everyone was dressed the part and enjoyed the music on the dance floor and off.

As the night progressed, the nature provided spectacular backdrop for the stunning event
