Svetlana Plays Private Rooftop Jazz Concert in Jaffa, Tel Aviv
Svetlana was on tour in Israel, where was thrilled to be invited to play a private concert on a picturesque penthouse rooftop by our Israeli fans! Our hosts are avid jazz lovers and also wine connoisseurs, so they were hoping to have an informal but exclusive evening of wine and jazz open only to close friends. We were so pleased they invited us o provide musical entertainment for the evening. While everyone was dressed informally according to Israeli informal summer and family-friendly, community-driven culture, we were not fooled – we were in the presence of many high level executives from the Israeli tech sector.
The hosts for the evening own a beautiful two-level penthouse apartment with a rooftop in the center of Yaffo in old Tel Aviv. Yaffo, in Hebrew Yafo, or in Arabic Yaffa, the southern-most and oldest part of Tel Aviv-Yafo, is an ancient port city in Israel. Jaffa is famous for its association with the biblical stories of Jonah, Solomon and Saint Peter as well as the mythological story of Andromeda and Perseus, and later for its incredible oranges.
The evening began with an informal wine tasting from different areas of Israel and Europe, followed by a meet and greet with the artist and a listening party of vinyl records by Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Nat King Cole, Peggy Lee and other famous jazz musicians. Guests were able to have an up-close and personal experience with jazz musicians where they could discuss the history of music, the band’s touring experiences and more. We even sold out of our records before the concert began – so we were off to a great start!
As the burning Israeli sun started to set, we began the show, focusing on the vintage New Orleans, Great Gatsby and Roaring 20s jazz selections requested by the client. We were also sure to include some songs in Yiddish and Russian, and kicked in salsa and other Latin groves, too. We were pleased to see that even after a long work week, the guests started to let loose and the evening informally transitioned into a joyous dance party – no dancing skills required!
The host was so ecstatic that they immediately booked us to come back for another private concert the following year! Svetlana and the Delancey Five are not your usual ‘cookie cutter’ private event band – we work with each client to create the experience that fits their exact specifications!
