Vintage Swing Party at the Brooklyn Underground Speakeasy

There is a big secret in NYC - which is a a quarterly classic speakeasy party in a secret Brooklyn loft, with live swingin' sounds by vintage jazz bands, blazing dancing divas, exotic cocktails, and the best afterparty electro-swing DJs remixing and reinventing vintage grooves late into the night. "Gatsby-era fun with a twist of new-school vibe" (The Village Voice). That big secret are the Swing House parties by the New York legendary Gemeni & Scorpio! We are honored to have been invited to play the event several times over the years - and we'd be remiss if we did not dedicate one blog post to this authentic New York underground vintage inspired experience!

The night starts with free bubbly followed by the introductory dance class of swing basics by Brooklyn Swings, the swing dance school and collective that teach at the very loft where party takes place. The guests then have a chance to show off their dancing skills to the sound of the band till the wee hours of the morning! Other entertainers are often invited to participate - and sweet remixed vintage beats continue after the band is finished with their set, until the unspecified "dancing is done" time! A new features that emerged in the last few years is the gambling den! Rounds of Texas Hold'em going till at least 1am, with winners getting permanent house credit with the party host!

The dress code is strictly enforced by the party organizers - they say "The Jazz Age never ended, it just got funky. Dress accordingly". "Corsets and top hats tweaked with studs and leather are totally appropriate." - The New York Times. But worry not, they make suggestions which is vintage (1920s-1940s) with a modern twist, cabaret, burlesque, Weimar Berlin, classic Hollywood, classy, sassy, tailored, hats, feathers, sequins, beads. Effort required - but dress code relaxes into modern-friendly after 1am for the electro-swing dance party.

We had a great time - so did the guests!
